Just in time for the 2026 Commodity Classic, John Deere has debuted new high-horsepower 8R and 8RX tractors, featuring a ground-up redesign that improves upon performance, maneuverability, and versatility.
Though the 8 Series has been around for several decades, Deere said that “the new horsepower options, technology, and other customer-driven changes make these tractors the ultimate planting tractor, planting up to 1,200 acres each day during those tight weather windows.”
The lineup has 440 hp, 490 hp, and 540 hp options and feature Reactive Command Steering, which means that the steering wheel automatically returns to center and includes three settings to create a customized steering experience. A new, narrow, and nimble frame also helps to maximize maneuverability.
“Drivability is important for operators, and with these new 8-Series tractor models you no longer have to choose between power and maneuverability,” said Michael Porter, John Deere’s marketing manager for large tractors. “The turning radius these tractors provide is more than 6′ tighter than competitors and does not limit the power and performance.”

The tractors are autonomy ready to help unlock efficiency during tillage; have the G5Plus display for access to precision ag technologies such as AutoTrac Turn Automation, AutoTrac Implement Guidance, AutoPath and more; are Machine Sync ready and optional JDLink Boost connectivity to help ensure reliable capture of field and machine data. They company says they also elevate John Deere’s Intelligent Power Management system to new levels by enabling not only an additional 40 horsepower at rated 1900 rpm but all the way down to max horsepower at 1700 rpm, enabling up to 634 horsepower for the most demanding applications of hydraulic, PTO, transport or electrical offboarding. This means customers will have the power when they need it.
Additional features that enhance the operator experience include:
- New Engine throttle controls
- New Convenience Display for easy access to adjustment of radio, air conditioning, seat, and phone controls
- Integrated wireless charging phone holder
- Two-way independent electric armrest adjustment
- Optional door cinch
“The six new 8R and 8RX models are designed for today’s farmers,” Porter said.
