VIDEO: Super El Niño in full swing weather and crops analyst says
Speaking at Ag in Motion 2026, weather and crops analyst Bruce Burnett says the current El Niño is an unusual one.
Ordinarily they form in late summer, but it is already underway now. By September, it’s expected to be one of the warmest ever observed in decades of monitoring.
Much of the Prairies will see a warmer than usual winter. Alberta could be dry and there could be more snow in the northern grain belt. There won’t be much impact during the growing season.
Markets could be effected though, as major competitors get hit harder during their growing season.
